Trek US Gran Prix of Cyclocross p/b Greenware® and WD-40 Bike Derby City Cup Returns to Eva Bandman Park November 10th and 11th

Event Debuts 2013 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships Course


Louisville, KY – November 8th, 2012 – The Trek US Gran Prix of Cyclocross p/b Greenware® and WD-40 Bike will return to Louisville’s Eva Bandman Park this week for the 6th running of the Derby City Cup. For the professional riders hoping to be selected to the United States World Championships team the weekend’s provide an excellent opportunity to preview the 2013 UCI Elite Cyclo-cross World Championships course – Louisville will host the event for the first time that the Elite World Championships have ever taken place outside of Europe in the 60+ year history of the sport. 

The Elite Women’s races are stacked deep with talent.   Trek Cyclocross Collective star Katie Compton headlines an incredible field that also includes the newly crowned European Champion, Helen Wyman (KONA) along with Georgia Gould (LUNA) who has shown consistently strong cx form since winning her Bronze medal on in mountain biking at this summer’s Olympic Games.   Gould is joined by her teammates Katerina Nash and Teal Stetson-Lee.   Also lining up are the powerful Rapha Focus duo of Julie Krasniak and Gabby Day and Raleigh Clement’s Nicole Duke and Caroline Mani to round out a truly international field.

The Elite Men’s race should also feature plenty of fireworks with Rapha Focus rider Jeremy Powers and teammates Chris Jones and Zach McDonald going head to head with the Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld.com team of Ryan Trebon, Tim Johnson and Jamey Driscoll.  Ben Berden (Raleigh Clement) has also shown great form throughout the season and is sure to like this terrain.   Among the others looking to knock a favorite off the podium are: Adam Craig (RaboBank); hometown hero Drew Dillman (U23 / Bob’s Red Mill); 2007 Worlds Silver Medalist Danny Summerhill (Garmin- Chipotle); Allen Krughoff (Raleigh Clement); Yannick Eckmann (U23/ Cal. Giant Berry Farms) and teammate Cody Kaiser (U23). 

The race also provides amateur racers a one in a life-time chance to race on the same course that will host Worlds.

Thursday, November 8th: 6:30- 8:00pm Injuries in Cycling: Prevention and Performance Seminar
Baptist Sports Medicine: 2400 Eastpoint Parkway, Louisville, KY


Topics covered will be: Common injuries, treatment, prevention, and performance training in regards to cycling. Presentation and panel discussion to follow. Special guests Meredith Miller and Rob Bush.

Friday, November 9th:

2-4pm: Pre-Riding weather and course conditions permitting.

6-8pm: Number Presentation and Pick-up: Sport and Social Club at 4th Street Live. 427 S. 4th Street
Come hob nob with the Pros, enjoy a beer and get your numbers for the weekend.
Free parking after 6pm in the Fourth St Live! garage – located on 5th street between Muhammed Ali and Liberty.

Saturday and Sunday / November 10 and 11:  On-site rider registration opens at 6:30am. Amateur racing begins at 8am Pro racing begins with the Elite Women at 2:15pm followed by the Elite Men at 3:30pm.

Admission is free for spectators.   River Road will be closed from Frankfort Avenue to Eva Bandman Park beginning on Friday, November 9th.   Parking for the event will be on River Road beginning at the Frankfort closure east.


The Trek US Gran Prix of Cyclocross presented by Greenware® and WD-40 Bike is a four weekend, eight race series comprised of the Planet Bike Cup in Madison, WI, The Derby City Cup, in Louisville, KY; The SmartWool Cup in Fort Collins, CO; and the Deschutes Brewery Cup in Bend OR. They represent the deepest, strongest, and fastest cyclocross fields in a series format on this side of the Atlantic.In 2012 the USGP is comprised of four C1 UCI races and four C2 races for the professional riders. The USGP categories are comprised of Elite Men, Elite Women, U23 Men, UCI Jrs. 17/18, Single Speed, Masters 35+ and Masters 45+. In addition each weekend features a full schedule of Kids Clinics, Amateur Categories and Expo.
