SIDI SPORT SHINES ON ROADS ALL OVER THE WORLD
From Australia to Europe, all the initial great achievements for the 2013 season
Maser (Treviso), 22 February, 2013 – The season has got off to a great start, with Sidi-branded champions as major players right from the get go. Between January and February, on roads the world over, from Australia to the Old Continent, even passing through the Middle East and Africa, Sidi Wire, the top model in the 2013 road collection, has been enjoying a veritable global success on the feet of the champions from the Sidi Sport pool.
Just to name a few of the plentiful victories obtained at the start of the season: the first 2013 triumph belongs to Andrea Palini (Lampre-Merida) and comes from the African roads of the Tropicale Amissa Bongo; then there were those at the Tour Down Under, in Australia, by Geraint Thomas (Sky Procycling) in the second stage and then by Tom Jelte Slagter (Blanco Pro Cycling) who won the third stage and took the overall classification.
Sidi also enjoyed the spoils in Oman with stage victories by Peter Sagan (the first in 2013 with the new Cannondale Pro Cycling) bulls eyes by Purito Rodriguez (Katusha) as well as French champion Nacer Bouhanni (Francaise des Jeux) and especially by Chris Froome (Sky Procycling), winner of one stage and the final classification in the Tour of Oman.
Sidi also made its mark from the very start on the roads of Europe. World Time Trial Champion Tony Martin won the TT and the final classification at the Volta ao Algarve, in Portugal, ahead of another Sidi champion, Poland’s Michal Kwiatkowski (Omega Pharma – Quick-Step), who came in second. Colombian Sergio Henao (Sky Procycling) also shined in the short Portuguese stage race, winning the third stage in a climbing arrival. In Italy Filippo Pozzato (Lampre-Merida), who has always been one of the most outstanding athletes from the Sidi Sport stables, won the Trofeo Laigueglia, the classic that officially opened the Italian calendar this year. In Spain Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) dominated the Vuelta Andalucia Ruta del Sol, winning the inaugural prologue as well as the final stage.
The season has only just begun, but Sidi champions have already started pedaling fantastically!Photos of the victories attached.
